Upon occasion an artist delivers something special and unique by separating himself from others. Such is the case with John Nilsen's newest release on Magic Wing, Places I Go. A collection if eleven pieces, this is John's first solo piano recording in twenty-four years and seventeenth overall. The recording features nine original compositions which colorfully combine elements of folk, jazz and classical voicings. Nilsen's compositions, Bryce's Song and Wishing I Had Wings, feature the strong melodic phrasing that have become a signature of John Nilsen's sound and have been instrumental in John's selling 3/4 of a million CDs worldwide. Places I Go, also includes of clever rendition of John Lennon's, Imagine as well as a beautifully played version of the folk song, Finlandia. This recording is well done with thoughtful and clever playing and performances.
