Bill Kanengiser, Classical Cool
First Prize Winner of the 1987 Concert Artist's Guild International - New York Competition, the 1981 Toronto Guitar Competition, and highest prize winner of the 1983 Radio-France International Guitar Competition, William Kanengiser is recognized as one of America's premiere young classical guitarists. A two-time recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Solo Recitalist Grant, Mr. Kanengiser has transcribed and arranged music for both solo guitar and for the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet. Whoever said "classical is classical; jazz is jazz and never the twain shall meet", was wrong. "Classical Cool" proves the two can go hand in hand strolling down a compelling musical boulevard paved by Bill Kanengiser. He has performed extensively in North America, Europe, and Asia as a soloist and with the highly acclaimed Los Angeles Guitar Quartet. William Kanengiser was Ralph Macchio's guitar double and coach in the Columbia Pictures film "Crossroads." Mr. Kanengiser studied at the University of Southern California, being named Outstanding Graduate of the School of Music upon receiving both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Mr. Kanengiser is currently Professor of Guitar at the University of Southern California.
