Britten, Benjamin, St. Nicholas

Formed in 1883, The Christ Church Cathedral Choir of Indianapolis, under the direction of Frederick Burgomaster, has achieved an international reputation for excellence in choral music and has sung to audiences in many of the great cathedrals of the world, including St. Paul's and Westminster Abbey (London), St. Mark's (Venice), and St. Peter's Basilica (Rome). Britten's music is highly pictorial, describing the events of St. Nicholas' life as if they had been recorded in vivid paintings and sketches. Each movement is based on a particular experience or event in the life of St. Nicholas. Britten has also included two hymns, to be sung by choir and congregation, and accompanied by orchestra and organ.
