Amorim, Marcos Trio, Portraits

On Portraits, Brazilian guitarist Marcos Amorim reunites with the musicians who joined him on their critically acclaimed trio debut, Revolving Landscapes. Drummer Rafael Barata (Rosa Passos, Edu Lobo, Ivan Lins, Mario Adnet) and bassist Jorge Albuquerque (Nestor Torres, Leo Gandleman and Antonio Adolfo) once again serve as Amorim’s vital collaborators on a collection of ten new compositions that showcase the celebrated guitarist’s elegant and graceful style. Enhancing the trio’s tight textural interplay on the CD is cellist Sergio Nunes. Portraits is Amorim’s fourth release on Adventure Music. Cris on the Farm and Sete Capelas, both recorded with larger ensembles (a quartet and quintet, respectively), introduced the Rio-based Amorim to a US audience, and were lauded as a “revelatory Brazilian release” (Jazz Times).
