Martins, Pedro, Dreaming High
Dreaming High (Sonhando Alto) is the first album of one of the most promising musicians of the new generation, the Brazilian guitar player and composer from Brasilia, Pedro Martins. It’s astonishing to realize that this entire album was composed and arranged by Pedro when he was only 16 years old (he just turned 19). His father was a musician and Pedro to grew up with several instruments always available, but nobody expected that he would turn out to be a multi-instrumentalist playing keyboard, drums, bass and his lead instrument of the electric guitar. With influences from Milton Nascimento, Hermeto Pascoal, Chick Corea, Hamilton de Holanda and the Beatles, Martins was self taught in the beginning eventualy enrolling in the Brasília’s School of Music (EMB) and learned theory with classical piano and musical perception. At the age of 13, he was already considered a promising name in the Brazilian instrumental music scene. Dreaming High, recorded in Rio de Janeiro, is the first step for Pedro in a search for an original sound based on rhythms and improvisation.
